The Eye Behind the Design

Growing up in Newcastle, Australia, Kristin Gilford sensed from an early age that her interests leaned in a different direction. While others spent their time on toys and outdoor play, Kristin was drawn to the home, requesting new duvet sets and artwork for birthdays and Christmas instead of the usual gifts. What may have seemed unusual at the time was, in hindsight, the beginning of a lifelong appreciation for interiors.

As a child, Kristin instinctively created spaces that felt calm, personal, and considered. Her childhood collections may not have included Moroccan ceramics or Indian marble, but the intention was already there. A love for gathering meaningful pieces and shaping an environment that felt both comforting and uniquely her own.

As she grew older, Kristin found inspiration in prize homes and weekend open inspections. What began as a quiet curiosity evolved into a clear vision: to one day create a home and a life centred around beautiful, intentional spaces.

Kristin later spent a decade renovating and building homes alongside her husband, a painter and decorator, refining her eye for detail and craftsmanship. During this time, she also balanced careers as a flight attendant and hairdresser. Though successful in both career paths, her passion and eye for detail drove her to finally step away and take a leap. This journey led to the creation of Bungalow Interiors, a boutique showroom founded with her mother, Mary Cooke. This small, heartfelt venture quickly grew into a destination for thoughtfully curated pieces. Clients were drawn to its warmth and individuality. It was an ever-evolving collection inspired by global influences, from Morocco to Europe and Asia, personally sourced by Kristin.

Her clientele quickly grew from passing interest to a loyal base of continuing purchasers. Much of this growth was driven by word of mouth, leading Kristin to take on increasingly larger and more refined projects, including luxury yachts, prize homes, and bespoke residences across the northern Gold Coast. Her work became especially sought after in Sanctuary Cove, Runaway Bay, Sovereign Islands, and other prestigious coastal suburbs.

Today, Kristin’s approach remains rooted in the philosophy that shaped her from the very beginning: creating spaces that feel as beautiful as they look. Layered, lived-in, and thoughtfully curated. Over time, she has built not only a strong portfolio but also lasting relationships, working with clients across generations. From styling a first home to designing a growing family space, considering nurseries, home offices, and even a long-awaited man cave, she has truly experienced it all. Bungalow Interiors isn’t a trend or a fixed style; it’s your style, elevated.
